Early Childhood Dance

Ages 2-5

Our Dance & Discover program introduces children ages 1-5 to the building blocks of dance in an upbeat, positive classroom environment! As dancers grow, the length of time in class each week and level of difficulty grow with them. Classes combine active play and focused learning time, creating a fun and productive experience for every dancer!

Ballet-based creative movement class for independent 2-year-olds

Ballet, Tap, and Tumbling for dancers ages 3 – 5

Bounce to the beat in this introductory hip hop class for ages 3 – 5!

Beginning & Teen Classes

Ages 6-18

Beginning and Teen classes provide an opportunity to get started in dance for students ages 6-18. These classes are designed to help keep students with their age group and in a beginning or recreational level class. Each class will perform in the recital, and every year our beginning and teen classes are tailored to help the students in the class reach their individual dance goals.

Graded technique classes at The Pointe follow nationally recognized curriculum in ballet, tap, and jazz.
Specialty classes that focus on performance and choreography in lyrical, hip hop, and musical theatre are available as well.
With 7 levels of technique, The Pointe is sure to have a class that fits your dancer’s skill level and schedule.

Advancement is based on correct placement, skill mastery, and instructor recommendation – not by age – which means all classes have a variety of age levels. Students spend an average of two years in each level before mastering the skills to advance. Students are evaluated in all skills required for advancement annually.

Homeschool Dance Classes

Ages 5+

Our Home School classes provide an opportunity for dancers who home school to take dance classes during the day! These positive and exciting classes are a great way to introduce your student to ballet and tap or to continue to build their skills!

** Home school classes during the day are available during the school year session only.

A Chance to Dance

A Chance to Dance Classes are designed for students with special needs. This completely inclusive program brings an opportunity to dance for every child. Dancers work together to explore movement styles, practice dance skills, and learn choreography. Each class will perform in the recital. Chance to Dance classes are led by Miss Denise and a team of assistants who help us maintain at least a 2:1 student/teacher ratio in each class. At The Pointe, we believe strongly in the benefits of dance education for all kids. We are so proud to offer the only dance program for children with special needs in the Cedar Rapids area.

The Pointe offers many performance opportunities throughout the year and two tracks students may wish to take.

Community Team

Community Team is a non-competitive performance team for dancers who love to perform! This is a great opportunity for dancers ages 5+ who want more performance experience throughout the year. Auditions are not required, but dancers are welcome to attend our Company auditions for the experience.

Company

Company is our exciting competitive program designed for dancers who want to grow through accelerated training, additional performances, and competition experience. Dancers who join Company at The Pointe must be prepared to make a serious commitment and sometimes sacrifice other activities or opportunities in favor of their commitment to Company. All competitions, recitals, and rehearsals are required, and excellent attendance and effort in classes and rehearsals is expected.
