February 2018 Newsletter

Message from Miss Vanessa:

February is the shortest month of the year and it always seems to fly by.  I hope your 2018 is off to a great start and you are able to enjoy your time in this short month of February.  I’m getting ready to fly out to Studio Owner University in Florida (we leave tomorrow!) to basically go back to “school” for dance studio owners.  This will be my second time attending a workshop designed to help dance studio owners learn best practices and principles to bring back to their communities.  It’s important for me to always be actively learning and growing – to build on the great atmosphere we have at the studio and make The Pointe School of Dance the best place for our students to attend classes, families to find community, and for our talented faculty to have a great place to work!  I’m so thankful for the great team we have in place here that will hold down the fort while I’m off learning how to be the best I can for our studio.  Directing a dance studio is literally my dream job – I’ve dreamed of this since I was in middle school, and continuing to always learn how to build and improve upon what we have here is so important.

Sometimes, to learn, we need to get out of our daily routine and get into hard business classes!  I will be meeting with and learning from the directors of some of the best dance studios in the country, and I’m so thankful to get to learn from them.  While preparing for this trip, I realized that these conferences are important and so helpful – but I shouldn’t discount what I learn in the day-to-day operations of the studio.  I learn so much from our students and families, and from taking time to pop in and observe a class or rehearsal taught by another teacher.  Maybe that’s one reason I love my job so much – I learn something new from some unexpected sources every day.

I’ll try not to post on Facebook the temperature in Florida while we’re there too many times… and can’t wait to come back to the studio equipped with even more knowledge and experience to keep making The Pointe the best place for a dance education.

Introducing… The Pointe Foundation!

Our new foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization seeking to provide dance education opportunities for students with financial need.  We have big goals to provide scholarships and outreach programs to bring the joy and power of dance to as many Cedar Rapids area students as possible in 2018.  We are currently seeking business and individual partnerships to help make this possible.

Reminder – Winter Weather Policy

In general, we follow the Cedar Rapids Community School District for cancellations and delays when schools are closed or delayed due to road conditions.  If we need to cancel classes due to inclement weather, we will send an email and post on our Facebook page before 2pm. Any cancelled class may be made up by attending a similar level class any time within two weeks of the missed class.  We do not cancel classes due to cold temperatures, regardless of the school cancellations.

Reminder – Illness & Class Makeup Policy

Please do not bring sick children to dance class – if your dancer has a fever, please do not bring them to class until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours.  Dancers can make up any missed class due to illness by attending a similar level class any time within two weeks of their missed class.
