Life Lessons through Dance Lessons

Anyone who knows me knows that I believe passionately in the power of a great dance education.  Dance is an interesting mix of athleticism and artistry, and I love how dancers benefit from both aspects – physically, mentally, and emotionally.

In dance classes, I see shy preschoolers nervous about leaving mom make new friends, practice classroom etiquette, learn about their body, dance and express emotions through music – all in a short tap/ballet/tumbling class!  I see elementary schoolers in the middle of growth spurts stop slouching to hide their height, but roll their shoulders down and back and move across the room with grace and poise.  I see middle and high schoolers come in to the studio with stress from school, pressure to do and be so many different things – then they let all of that go and make beautiful art and movement for an hour or two, and leave the studio energized and ready to take on the rest of their day.

It’s great when we hear about the benefits of dance education – check out this great article from the Rockets about the extra benefits of dance classes!

What great lessons have you or your dancer learned through their dance class?  We’d love to hear how dance classes have benefited your student or your family.
