New Year, New Dance Floors!

Now that the secret’s out… we’ve been in classes after the holiday break for over a full week so all of our students have seen (and danced on!) our big project.

New dance floors.

Our new marley floors are state-of-the-art and the best dance floors for all styles of dance.  They were built to withstand (and not overly mute) tap shoes, be the right balance of not-too-sticky and not-too-slippery for turning in ballet and jazz shoes, and be the right balance between soft and firm for dancing barefoot, accommodating floor work and falls, and giving students confidence that they can turn but won’t fall in their pointe shoes.

The floors came over break on a semi truck, in 10 total rolls, each weighing about 300 pounds!  We laid the floors out first and left the heat on for two days so the floors could relax, lose their creases, and acclimate to the temperature (they were on a truck for about 12 hours to get here from Philadelphia!).  After we laid them out, it took four people to lift and hold and move and trim and tape the floors down.  We finished this on New Year’s Eve and then had the baseboards replaced on Monday and Tuesday before we opened back up for business on Wednesday!  What a FULL break that was!

These new floors are our biggest investment in the studio space to date, and we are so thrilled to have the best floors for our students.  We are writing this blog post for parents who may not know why we felt the need to make the change (most people don’t have a clue what marley flooring is – and they probably don’t need to know).

With the new floors, please be sure that your dancers are not wearing their street shoes into the studio.  The sand and dirt from outside can ruin the surface that is so perfect to dance on!  Parents stepping in to observe classes should slip their shoes off before stepping in as well.   Thank you for being mindful of this to help us keep our new dance floors nice for years to come.

At The Pointe, we are always looking for ways to keep improving what we do – and we’re thrilled that we were able to do this big upgrade over the holiday break!

Thank you for your continued support of our studio – it is thanks to our great families that we are able to keep reinvesting in and always improving our studio space.
