Specialty Classes at The Pointe are choreography-based and intended to supplement our Graded Technique classes. These classes focus on performance skills and specific styles in Lyrical, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Musical Theatre.
Students should add the specialty class that corresponds to their level in Graded Technique classes. If a student is in different Graded Technique levels, use their ballet class level as the guide to start their Specialty class.
Hip Hop 1/2
Dancers in Level 1 or 2 in Graded Technique classes (first or second grade) will love adding hip hop! This class is 30 minutes weekly, and focuses on musicality and strong hip hop style. Students love dancing to (always age-appropriate!) popular music and learning new and trendy moves.
Hip Hop 3/4
Dancers in Level 3 and 4 in our Graded Technique classes love adding hip hop. This class is 30 minutes weekly, and focuses on more details in their hip hop style. Students love learning new, popular dance moves and dancing to (always age-appropriate!) popular music.
All Boys Hip Hop
All boys are welcome – no girls allowed! This fun, up-beat class is a great introduction to dance for boys or a chance to hang out with the guys for our experienced male dancers. Our choreography and music (always age-appropriate!) will be sure to make you want to dance!
Advanced Hip Hop
Dancers in Levels 5, 6, and Advanced in our Graded Technique classes explore different hip hop styles in this level. Any dancer should take Hip Hop 4/5 before taking Advanced Hip Hop. Our hip hop choreography and music for class and performances are always age-appropriate.
Dancers in Level 2 or 3 in our Graded Technique classes can add lyrical! Students love the expressive style of lyrical, combining ballet and jazz techniques to express the lyrics and stories told through music. This class is 30 minutes weekly.
Dancers in Level 4 or 5 in our Graded Technique classes add lyrical to express lyrics and stories told through music in a combination of ballet and jazz techniques. This class is 30 minutes weekly.
Dancers in Level 6 or Advanced in our Graded Technique classes may add Contemporary. This class will expand the expression in lyrical classes into a broader variety of styles in both music and movement.
Dancers in Level 4 and higher can add Musical Theatre to their Graded Technique classes to improve their performance quality and work with broader styles of dance. Most of the music will be from popular Broadway shows!
